Getting Your Energy Back
Roughly 9 out of 10 of my patients complain about fatigue. Honestly. I don’t think anyone has ever sat down with me and said that they just have too much energy. So, I know this topic is near and dear to the lives of many of our readers and it is certainly near and dear to me. So I wanted to share some tips to help you get your energy back.
- How is your sleep? That is the first thing I always discuss with patients because it is the most obvious cause of fatigue. If you aren’t sleeping well you will naturally be fatigued. Make sleep a priority and keep trying different sleep solutions until you find one that works for you! This isn’t an article about sleep so I won’t elaborate about sleep solutions, but stay tuned, I’ll cover that topic in another post.
- What is your stress level? We all go through stressful times in our lives, but those should be the exception and not the rule. If you move from one crisis in your life to the next, maybe its time for you to do some soul-searching and figure out how to create a more peaceful environment for yourself. Sometimes that means avoiding toxic people, sometimes that means saying “no” to commitments and sometimes it just means making yourself a priority.
- What are you eating? Your food either fuels you or fools you. If you are choosing healthy foods that nourish your body you will have more energy to sustain you. If you are feeling fatigued, you might be tempted to grab a sugary snack or energy drink-- but those things just fool you into thinking they will give you energy!!! Sure, you might get a short-term boost but after the effect wears off you will crash and burn! Planning your meals ahead of time is the best way to stop yourself from making a bad decision when you are tired. I’m attaching a free meal-planning printable for you to use to help with this step.
- How are you supplementing? I’m a big believer in supplements that give me an edge. I tend to try to live my life like I’m a super-hero and I like it that way, but I know up front that even with the best habits I need a little extra boost if I’m going to live an extraordinary life. There are 2 supplements that I recommend for energy. The first is a quality B12, specifically, Methylcobalamin because it can be readily used by your body to help with metabolic processes. The other energy supplement that I like is “Energy Xtra” by Pure Encapsulations. This supplement contains “adaptogens” that are herbal extracts to help your body cope with the effects of stress.
