Does B12 Boost Your Energy?
Posted 7/20/16 by Catherine Henderson
Have you ever wondered why some people swear by B12 shots for energy and some people say the shots didn’t do anything for them? Do you think that the people that say they work are just experiencing a placebo effect? Probably not, and here is why:
- The standard B12 that you will find in most B12 injections and over-the-counter supplements is “cyanocobalamin” and your body has to convert it to “methylcobalamin” before your cells can use it. Most people make this conversion easily and will experience a boost in energy from this type of B12.
- However, about 10% of Americans have a genetic mutation that won’t allow their body to methylate well- meaning that they can’t effectively use the cyanocobalamin found in most typical B12 products. You can be tested for this genetic mutation-- more and more doctors are beginning to test for it, but if you haven’t been tested I have a simple solution for you.
- Just try taking Methylcobalamin instead of cyanocobalamin. This is the active B12 molecule that your body can readily use without doing any fancy chemistry to it. You can find it in high quality B12 products over-the-counter or in compounded B12 injections. Many people will notice an immediate difference in the way they feel when they make that switch. We carry several options in-store or in our online shop- B12 5000 liquid and Methylassist are the most popular. I favor the Methylassist because it also contains an activated folic acid--and if your body prefers methylcobalamin, it will also prefer this type of folic acid.
Do you want to experience the difference that Methylcobalamin makes? Leave your comment below for a chance to win a free bottle of B12 5000 liquid. We will announce the winner on August 8th.
